โขFreezer: For longer storage, wrap baked potatoes individually in foil or plastic wrap, then place in a freezer-safe bag. Theyโll keep well for up to 3 months.

To keep the skin crispy, reheat potatoes in the air fryer at 375ยฐF for 3โ5 minutes or in the oven at 400ยฐF for about 10 minutes. For a quick option, you can also microwave, but the skin wonโt be as crisp.
Baked Potato Air Fryer FAQs
Yes! You can use aluminum foil in the air fryer as long as you follow a few rules. Always place food on top of the foil so it stays weighed down, and never line the entire basket or chamberโthis blocks airflow and prevents even cooking. If youโre cooking foods like vegetables or potatoes, poke a few small holes in the foil to allow hot air to circulate. Avoid using foil with acidic ingredients like tomatoes, citrus, or vinegar, which can react with the metal. For many recipes, parchment paper with holes is an even better option to keep cleanup easy while still allowing air to flow freely.
Yes! Thereโs no need to boil potatoes before air frying. The air fryer cooks them through while crisping up the outside, so you get fluffy insides and golden, crunchy skins in one step. Just scrub, dry, season, and air fryโno parboiling required.
Yes! You can air fry a potato without oil, but the skin wonโt get as crispy or flavorful. Oil helps conduct heat, lock in moisture, and create that golden, crackly crust. If you prefer to skip oil, the potato will still cook through and be fluffy insideโjust expect a softer skin.
Yes! Air fryer potatoes are healthier than traditional fried potatoes because they use a fraction of the oil while still delivering crispy, golden skins and fluffy insides. Theyโre naturally gluten-free, a good source of fiber and potassium, and can be customized with heart-healthy oils and nutritious toppings to fit your diet.
Russet potatoes are the best choice for air frying because their high starch content and thick skins yield a fluffy interior and perfectly crispy exterior. Yukon Gold potatoes are another great option if you prefer a creamier, buttery texture with thinner skins.

Ingredients
- 3 medium russet potatoes
- 1-2 teaspoons olive oil
- 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly cracked pepper
- Topping Ideas: Butter, sour cream or Greek yogurt, green onions, chives, cheese, bacon, broccoli (See post for LOTS of creative ideas!)
Instructions
- Prep: Set the air fryer to 400ยฐF using the air fryer setting.
- Wash & Prick Potatoes: Wash and thoroughly dry the potatoes. Use a fork to poke each potato about 8 times all over.
- Oil the Potatoes: Drizzle olive oil over the potatoes (or I use my favorite oil sprayer), then rub evenly all around the outsides. It is easiest to pick up the potatoes one at a time to do this.
- Season the Potatoes: Whisk together the salt and pepper, then sprinkle half over the top of the potatoes; rub in, then sprinkle the rest over the other side.
- Air Fry: Place the potatoes in the basket of an air fryer, leaving a little space between each. Cook for approximately 40-55 minutes, flipping halfway. The cooking time will vary depending on the size of the potatoes โ they are done when they are fork-tender. See cooking times below:โขMedium Russet Potatoes (about 7โ8 oz. each): 40โ45 minutes at 400ยฐFโขLarge Russet Potatoes (10โ12 oz. each): 45โ55 minutes at 400ยฐFโขExtra-Large Potatoes: Up to 60 minutes at 400ยฐF
- Rest: Remove the potatoes from the air fryer using tongs and let cool for 5 to 10 minutes.
- Slice and Serve: Slice each potato down the top middle (not all the way through), then gently press the ends in towards the middle to help open. Fluff the insides and serve with toppings. Check out the post for TONS of topping ideas!
